One touchdown gets Back B within two points of a workhorse in standard scoring while playing a third of the snaps. Give him a second score in the same game — entirely possible with three carries inside the 5 — and he posts 1.4 + 12 = 13.4 in standard, beating Back A outright and matching him in full PPR.
The structural point: these two backs are not competing for the same fantasy value. Back A’s is volume-based and stable; Back B’s is event-based and lumpy, and which one is startable depends on your scoring format before it depends on the players.
